Uploading large files

This article outlines a 2-step workaround for uploading large file attachments (greater than 10 GB) to the InEight Document module using 7-Zip to split files into smaller parts.

Prerequisites

  • Have access to the InEight Document module.

  • Have permission to create new documents and attach files.

  • Have the 7-Zip application installed on your computer.

Step 1 – Split the file using 7-Zip

  1. Open the folder containing the large files you want to upload.

  2. Right-click the folder, and then select 7-Zip > Add to archive (if using windows 11 you may need to click Show more options to find the 7-zip menu).

  3. Click the ellipsis button to choose the destination folder for the split files.

  4. In the Split to volumes, bytes field, select a size for each file from the drop-down list.

  5. Adjust other settings as needed (for example, archive format, compression level).

  6. Click OK to begin the archiving and splitting process.

Do not delete any part files, as this will prevent successful extraction later.

Step 2 – Upload the split files to InEight Document

  1. In the Documents module, select New > Document, and then complete the required fields.

  2. Click Attach Files.

  3. Select the first batch of split files (for example, .001 to .005), and then click Open.

  4. After the files are uploaded, click Save to save the document and attached files.

Ensure all split files are uploaded to the same document revision.

Downloading and extracting the file from InEight Document

Download the files

Extract the original file

  1. In the extracted folder, locate the file ending in .001.

  2. Right-click the .001 file, and then select 7-Zip > Open Archive.

  3. In the 7-Zip window, click Extract.

  4. Choose a destination folder and ensure there is enough disk space.

  5. Click OK to begin extraction.
