InEight PLAN - Component Creation from Import

TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to InEight Plan. In this video, you'll learn how to use a template to import components. While you can create components from scratch by adding their information manually, you may find it easier to import them from a spreadsheet, allowing you to upload multiple components with all their information at once. InEight Plan offers a spreadsheet template.

To use this template, first set up the information you want to include in Quantity Tracking. You'll then export the template, update it, and import back into Plan. Let's start by setting up the template. When you export your template, it will contain only the columns currently displayed in the component register.

From the Standard Grid view, select the columns you want to include. Open the Column Chooser to add, reorder, or remove columns. When you're ready to export, click here. You can export just the template with the column headers, but no data, or you can export the template with any component data currently in the component's register.

When you've made your selection, the template will download in an Excel file. Open the file and enable editing. Note that it contains only the columns you specified. This template includes a key specifying which fields are required, optional, validated, or ignored.

Components are categorized as activity, material, or assembly. Within each type, make sure that each component has a unique ID. Components can share the same name, but they must have distinct IDs. If you're creating a new component, you can leave this field blank.

Add your component details to the template. When finished, name your file and save it to your device. You're now ready to import your file back in the Plan Quantity Tracking module. Click the Import icon.

Note that you have several options for updating your component data. Select your file, then select Import. If your file contains errors, a report will be generated to help you correct them before you continue. Your new components will now appear in the component register and are ready to be claimed against.

Now you've learned how to import new components into Plan. Thanks for watching!
