Video - InEight Plan - Creating Work Packages from Scratch

TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to InEight Plan. In this video, you'll learn how to organize your work packaging and create work packages from scratch. The Work Packaging module of InEight Plan provides an organized platform to break down your project into manageable scopes of work. There are three levels of work package definition: construction work area, construction work package, and installation work package.

Construction work areas are distinct geographic areas of your project. Construction work packages and installation work packages will be grouped under these areas. A construction work package is a logical division of work within the construction scope. A CWP may be divided by area, system, or another variable determined by the project.

An installation work package is the deliverable that enables a construction crew to perform work in a safe, predictable, measurable, and efficient manner. An IWP is scoped to be manageable and progressable and can typically be completed in about a week. To get started, click the Actions menu from Work Packaging. Select Configure CWA and project values from the drop-down list.

Here you can create work areas and define project-wide settings. To create a new construction work package, return to the Work Packaging tab. Select the appropriate construction work area, then click the Add icon and select Construction work package. Now a new construction work package has been associated to the construction work area.

Add details to your construction work package, starting with the Overview tab. Add big picture details and communications on the Workspace, General Considerations, and Document tabs. In some cases, you may need to create the same work package for a new area with only a few small changes. Instead of repeating the entire process of creating a new work plan, you can copy an existing work package and then make minor adjustments as needed.

Now that you've created and organized your construction work packages, you can further break down work by adding installation work packages. You can also create a new CWP or IWP without associating it to a construction work area. These will appear under Unassociated packages, and you can organize them by dragging and dropping them into a new folder. Now you've learned how to organize your work packaging by construction work area, construction work packages, and installation work packages.
