Welcome to InEight Plan. In this video, you'll learn how to import work packages from InEight's Excel template or from other projects. As you plan out your project, you may have multiple work packages to set up. Rather than create each package manually, you can import existing packages either through the Excel template or from another project.
Let's start with the Excel template. To use this template, first set up the information you want to include in Work Packaging. You'll then export the template, update it, and import it back into Plan. When you export your template, it will contain only the columns currently displayed on Work Packaging.
Select the columns you want to include. Open the Column Chooser to add or remove columns. When you are ready to export, click here. You can export a template that's populated with your project data or a blank template.
Open the file and enable editing. At the top of the template, you'll see a key specifying which fields are required, optional, validated, or ignored. Next, input information into the template. Enter your work package, name, type, description, and plan ID.
Note that the ID is a validated field, so it must match the data in Plan. If you're creating a new construction work package, you can leave this field blank. Once you've filled in your information, save the file to your computer. You're now ready to import your file back in Work Packaging.
Click Import from file, select your file and click Import. If your file contains errors, a report will be generated to help you correct them before you continue. Once your import has been completed successfully, you'll see your new work package in the Work Packaging register. Another way to quickly import work packages is to copy them across projects.
Open the original project that contains the packages you want to import. Navigate to Work Packaging, select the packages, and click Export to other project. Choose from your list of projects and click Next. You can specify the items you want to include before you export.
The packages will now appear in your Work Packaging register. Now you've learned how to import work packages. Thanks for watching!
