Welcome to InEight Design. In this video, you'll learn how to configure milestones on a claiming scheme and plan and complete milestone progress. To add milestones to a claiming scheme, click here. From our list of claiming schemes, here's a new scheme we've created.
Let's select the claiming scheme and click here to edit it. Here you can see the steps of the claiming scheme with their weight all totalling up to 100%. These steps will help calculate earned value as progress is captured. Let's assume along with these steps, you want to track the completion of key milestones along the way.
To track a milestone completion at this step, click in the field to select the milestone from the dropdown list. Remember, the milestones in the dropdown list are managed in your project settings. These milestone values are inherited from the milestones defined at the root org level. You can add additional milestones from the org level as needed and can delete any that aren't already assigned to claiming schemes.
Let's add additional milestones to other steps in the claiming scheme. Click here to save your changes. Let's go back to our scope items by clicking here. Let's open the scope item to see how we're currently tracking planned and actual dates by scrolling down and clicking here.
Currently, we have a single set of dates we're tracking for the scope item. Here, you can enter when you plan to start and finish this scope item, but perhaps you want to plan start and end dates at the milestone level. To do this, go to your project settings, select Design, engineering. Under dates, select this option to track dates at the milestone level.
Back in the scope items register, when we open our scope item, we can now enter plan dates for each milestone. Now you're ready to start tracking the work as it's completed. Notice these steps have now been completed up through the first milestone, and we see the actual dates they were completed. Note that the dates for this step and these steps before it all pertain to this milestone.
The actual start date for this milestone is the earliest date of all the steps that pertain to it, and the actual finish date is the date the milestone step was completed. Notice the next set of steps all pertain to the second milestone. You can claim against any of these steps, and the date becomes the actual start date for this milestone. Click save to save your changes.
Let's open the scope item again to see how we're rolling this information up to the scope item level. Here we see the scope item percent complete based on the steps completed so far and under dates, we see the actual dates calculated so far for each milestone. Notice you can't edit the actual dates since they're calculated automatically from your claimed steps. Well, now you've learned how to create and manage milestones in claiming schemes.
Thanks for watching.
