Video - InEight Design - How to Create a Scope Item

Welcome to InEight Design. This video demonstrates how to create a scope item in the engineering module. A scope item can represent any type of design scope that you want to track progress on, like initiatives or deliverables, for example. To create a scope item, you need to ensure you have a claiming scheme assigned to it.

So let's create that first. Go to the actions menu, click configure claiming schemes. Click here to add a new claiming scheme. First, enter an ID, description and choose a lead discipline.

Remember the claiming schemes of standardized steps to complete a scope of work. Let's add step one. Enter the step name, enter the percent claim amount. This allows incremental earning percent complete on a scope of work.

And if you have multiple steps, it needs to add up to 100%. Select the resource type for each step. This helps you see what tasks are assigned to each resource type, so you can allocate resources appropriately. Click here to save your claiming scheme.

Navigate back to the grid view here. Now let's create a scope item. Click here and the slide out appears. Enter a description, select the newly created claiming scheme from the dropdown.

Enter the scope item, quantity and unit of measurement. For example, the deliverable could be creating two sets of technical drawings, so you would enter 2 for quantity and each for unit of measure. Ensure to fill out any other details you have. Scroll down to the resources section and select a WBS phase code to assign to the scope item.

This WBS code matches up to the cost item in InEight Control, so earned value will be tracked against that resource type. Once you're finished, click add. The scope item now appears in the grid. You can click on the dropdown to expand it to see all the steps.

It also gives you the ability to claim percent complete. Well, that's a quick overview of scope items in InEight Design. Thanks for watching.
