Introduction to InEight Design

Welcome to InEight Design. In this video, you'll learn how to create and manage observations.

Tracking Quantity Changes

In InEight Design, you can track quantity changes that occurred in the design phase of a project and would need to be captured for potential change orders or track design changes for estimators.

Evolution from Change Notes to Observations

Previously, these changes were tracked using change notes, which have now evolved into observations.

Linking Observations to Design Elements

You can link a single observation to quantity items or multiple design elements.

Managing Observations Log

Under the observations tab, you'll find a log of all captured observations for the project where you can easily add, edit, or delete entries.

New Fields in Observations

While some fields mirror those that were found in quantity change notes, new fields such as observation date, status, severity, and assigned have been introduced.

Associating Observations with Issues

You can also associate observations with issues from innate change. Once linked, you can open the related issue directly from design, giving you insight into the associated scope.

Choosing Between Quantity and Design Items

The associate to drop down lets you choose between quantity or design items. For instance, when selecting design items, the design element tab will display any relevant design elements tied to that observation.

Adding Design Elements to Observations

You can add more design elements by specifying the discipline, design element, and unit of measure, all of which will be associated with the observation.

Associating Observations with Quantity Items

When associating to quantity items, navigate to the quantity items tab, select the desired items, and click associate observation.

Saving Linked Observations

A pullout displays observations linked to quantity items. Once you click Save, those items are officially connected to the observation.

Editing Observations and Quantity Item Count

Returning to the observations tab, you'll notice a change in your quantity item count. Clicking this number opens the edit observation window where you can view and maintain the quantity items associated with that observation.

Viewing Observations in Quantity Grid

To view the observations in the quantity grid, open the desired quantity item and click on edit.

Edit Quantity Item Slide Out

This brings up the edit quantity item slide out, where you can view the quantity items linked to the observations.

Capturing Quantity Changes at Different Levels

Depending on your business processes, you may prefer to capture quantity changes at a broader level, such as at the design element level rather than focusing on individual quantity items.

Flexibility of Observations

Observations offer the flexibility to capture data at the level that best fits your organization's needs.

Conclusion on Observations

Now you understand how observations can help you accurately record data according to your specific requirements.

Closing Remarks

Thanks for watching.
