Point cloud data

Model support of point cloud data enables a more streamlined workflow for projects that incorporate 3D scanning or LiDAR data. You can import, visualize, and manipulate point cloud data in Model. It enhances Model’s tools for design visualization, engineering, and any workflow that requires precise real-world data integration.

You can validate design data before and after construction, capture real-time visualization, and have timely issue recognition.

You can perform the following:

  • Align and overlay point clouds with existing 3D models.

  • Create accurate meshes.

  • Refine real-world scans to enhance your designs.

  • Capture precise measurements directly from your point cloud data, ensuring accuracy.

  • Analyze and validate real work dimensions in your project, such as measuring distances, angles, or volumes.

Using point cloud

In a model, you can go to View > Point cloud to open the Point cloud panel to select your point cloud source file. You can also use the File > Import option to import your point cloud source file.

The following images show some point data model functions in Model:

  • Measuring and sectioning

  • Grayscale and RGB color comparison

  • Dot sizing

Considerations

Currently only .e57 file type is supported.
