Welcome to InEight Schedule. This video demonstrates how to create a high level planning structure. Now that you've created your plan, we'll touch on creating planning packages, milestones, activities, and how to adjust these elements to meet your desired plan. To do this, we need to enter planning mode by clicking the schedule icon here and making sure planning is selected.
Planning mode allows you to freely update planning packages, milestones and activities while not adding new activities or logic. In planning mode, you can add planning packages, milestones, and activities to create additional items. This can be accomplished in two ways. The first way is to simply select the actions menu in the Gantt grid and click the icon to create a new planning package, milestone or activity.
This generates a new line, which rolls up into the original. The second way utilizes the detail out functionality. Selecting detail out brings up a new menu, allowing you to dictate the quantity of new work packages or activities to be created. And if these occur in parallel or in succession, you can also define the duration of the new work packages and activities manually or automatically, and let the system know whether you'd like to apply scheduling logic to the new elements you've created.
Clicking on Build brings in your new planning packages or activities. In addition to adding elements in planning mode, you can change the schedule dates of planning packages, milestones, and activities by dragging and dropping a line item to the position on the timeline where that element will occur. You can also update planning package or activity length by selecting the desired row and dragging the start or end date, or by viewing suggestions in your iris slide out panel under the smart planning tab, and selecting the desired duration from the options presented from other schedules. Once
finished with the high level planning, you can leave the project on planning mode or switch back to scheduling mode to begin applying critical path methodology to your project. Well, that's how to create a high level planning structure. Thanks for watching.
