Bid pricing using billing rates

You can produce a bid proposal based on the billing rates used in the estimate for cost reimbursable or time and expense type projects. You can choose to price your bid items in the job using a target price based on either charge rates or billing rates, plus a distribution of unassigned costs and markup in the Pricing tab of the Job Properties .

The Price Breakdown Structure (PBS) lets you see both cost and billing amount target prices at the same time regardless of the job properties setting.

Cost vs Billing in the Price Breakdown Structure (PBS)

In the PBS, you can view the difference between your charge and billing rates. In the PBS Action menu, change your view to Charge Rate and Billing Rate to view both the charge and billing rates and compare them.

In the Charge Rate and Billing Rate view, you can see the price of your job using the charge rates and the distribution of markup compared to just using straight billing rates. In the Total column, you can also see the total charge rate amount for your job.

Depending on the Job Properties setting, either the total charge rate or the total billing amount will be the amount used in the Proposal Recap to establish the target price for your job.

Target bid price based on billing amount

The billing amount can be used to establish the target price for the job and to price out pay items accordingly. In the Job Properties Pricing tab, you can select to calculate balanced pay item prices using Cost Amount or Billing Amount. When you select Billing Amount, the target price updates and is based on the billing amounts.

Balance your bid based on billing rates

  1. Select Billing Amount to calculate balanced pay item prices. After selecting Billing Amount, the target price is updated and is now based on the billing amount.

  2. Go to the PIP Register Actions tab.

  3. To auto-price your job and achieve the target total, click the Balanced Bid drop-down menu, and then select Hit Target Total.

    When selected, Estimate goes through all the items and re-prices them to balance your bid based on billing rates. The total current price now matches the target price.
