Video - InEight Estimate - Associate an Estimate with a Core Project
TRANSCRIPT
Welcome to InEight Estimate in the Cloud. In this video, we'll review how to associate an estimate with a core project using master data in the InEight Suite Core Platform.
One benefit of associating a core project with an estimate is to leverage the OBS, which means jobs are assignable to levels in an Organizational Breakdown Structure via their core project association, and that drives your user security via authentication when you log in to Project Suite, since the role assigned to you on a project, or for a level of the OBS, will determine your access and permissions.
Certain project information is maintained within the InEight Suite. After selecting your project, edit it as needed. A lot of this information will come over to Estimate, including the location and project date sections since it's driven by this core project. When done, click Save.
Estimates are associated with core projects when the estimate is first created. Within Estimate, create a new job and select a core project, then jump over to the Job Properties.
This estimate has been associated with this core project. These greyed out fields are read-only because they've come from the fields in Core.
Incidentally, clicking on this Project ID hyperlink takes you over to InEight Core's landing page for that project. On the Cover Sheet tab in Estimate, you'll see additional greyed out data, which also came over from the core project. Everything else that's relevant to the estimate is still editable.
Here in the Job Register, you have all the jobs you've created and will be able to see which core projects they are associated to.
On the far end of the register, you can see the Project ID, Project Name, and ORG they belong to. Let's fix these columns to the left and group on the ORG.
Now the jobs are organized by the levels of the Organizational Breakdown Structure that they're in. You can also see some of the other information that's coming from Core that's read-only. To build another version of an estimate off this project, click File > New.
In the popup, select your core project from the drop-down. Again, platform data will have already populated the Code and Description fields. This time, you'll want to update the Code and Description to show its version #2. That'll create a new version of an estimate associated to the same core project id. This means you can more effectively use the core project's to manage different versions of an estimate, or a particular facility or project site, or take a larger project and make multiple smaller estimates for the various divisions of work like electrical or mechanical.
Now that you have a different version of the estimate, you can also group by the Project ID, which gives you the ability to look at the work with all the different estimates associated with a single project.
It's important to note that while you can see jobs you cannot access, your ability to manipulate data is based on your security level. That's derived from your assigned role as identified in Suite Administration > Roles and Permissions.
In the Master Data Library's level, there's an Estimate section which lets you manage which roles have access to the Estimate library and templates. Be aware that access to the Estimate library requires a level #3 Account Admin administrator level,. And under the Estimate menu you can manage jobs and snapshots.
Role-based permissions required for managing projects and estimates are maintained in Suite Administration while permissions pertaining to Estimate commands and destinations are still found in the Access Control Register of the Estimate Library.
All roles come from Core and your permissions will be predicated on the role you've been assigned, either specifically on a project or as inherited based on your role in the level of the OBS for which the project is assigned.
And that covers how to, within InEight Estimate in the cloud, associate an estimate with a core project using master data in the InEight Suite. Thanks for watching.
