Video - InEight Estimate - Copy an Existing Job

TRANSCRIPT

Welcome to InEight Estimate. In this video, we'll look at how to take advantage of already existing projects and re‑use project activities and resources as needed by making an exact replica of the project. This is the equivalent of doing a "save as" to create a new project.

Creating a Copy of a Project

To create a copy of a project, select File to go to the Backstage View, then select New. From the list of options, select Existing Job. You can also access this option from the Start option, under the "Create a new job from" section. Click on Existing Job and the Job Register opens. From the Job Register, select the project you wish to copy, then click OK. The core project, from which this project originated, appears, though another core project can be selected.

Updating Project Information

Since this is a copy of an existing job, the Code field is populated, but you'll need to update this field to reflect the name of the new project. Make sure to update the Description too. Note, you can choose to not copy Cost Details, the PBS Changes Log, or Quotes, if desired. You can also decide if you want to have the job automatically update to Connected Analytics for reporting purposes.

Finalizing the Copy Process

When done, click OK to create the copy. The new project is created containing the link to the Core Project, and the new project contains all the job properties, pay and cost items, resources, and other data as the job that you copied. And on the new job, you can see the name of the Source Job from which this one was created, and your name as the creator. And that's how you copy an existing job within InEight Estimate. Thanks for watching.
