Video - InEight Estimate - Haul Calculator
TRANSCRIPT
The Haul Calculator allows you to enter the specifics such as distance and speed of up to three haul routes. Once you've entered these items, you can either calculate the number of trucks required to complete the haul in a set amount of time, or calculate how long it will take to complete the haul within a set number of trucks. You can access the Haul Calculator from an employed equipment resource on a cost item record by right-clicking on the equipment resource, and then selecting it from the resulting right-click menu. Let's go over an example of how to use the Haul Calculator.
First, let's open Cost Item 3.2
- Haul. Make sure you're on the Details tab, and then right-click on the row header of ETDT Dump Truck. From the drop-down list, select "open haul calculator". Now that you're in the Haul Calculator, select the "calculate quantity" radio button.
Next, type in the following information. For the Haul distance type 5, enter an average payload in cubic yards of 12. For load time and minutes., type 3.
Enter a travel speed - full of 35 miles an hour. For dump time in minutes, type 2. Enter a travel speed - empty of 45 miles an hour. Notice this calculates a cycle time of 20.24.
Enter a work efficiency of 90%. Notice at the end of the Haul Calculator the results of your specifics. Click OK to close the Haul Calculator, and you can now see that your cost item shows a quantity of 9.37. Round up the quantity to 10.
Then adjust the Teamster quantity to 10 as well. Since you know that both of them will be on the same haul route. In a different scenario, let's say you know how many trucks you have, but you need to calculate how long it will take to haul all the material. Since you're in the Cost Item 3.2
- Haul, go ahead and change the Teamster and Dump Truck back to a quantity of 1 each. Once again, right-click on the EDT Dump Truck row header to open the Haul Calculator. This time, select the other radio button of calculate total duration, since you want to calculate duration instead of quantity. You'll notice that your previous information is still in there.
But now you can edit your number of concurrent haulers so that you can find out how many hours it will take. Enter 4 in the Concurrent Hauler field and now at the bottom of the Haul Calculator, you get a new Total Duration of hours. Click OK. Know that your production has updated to the total time calculated to haul the dirt based on your haul calculation.
