Video - InEight Estimate - Import Resource Rates
TRANSCRIPT
In the Resource Rate Register, it's possible to import resource rates from another source such as Excel. It's common to update your rates on an annual basis, or if you have different rates for a different region. Importing resource rates from Excel, in InEight's Resource Rate Register will save you a lot of time and effort. In order to start importing your resource rates, let's navigate to the Library and to Resource Rates.
As you can see, there are seven resource rate types. There's also an All tab which displays all of the seven resource rates in one screen. If you look at the Labor tab, you can see there are no labor rates. This is the same for the other six resource rates.
You now have to populate the labor resource rates with new values. Let's import new labor rates from your Excel file. Your Excel file should look something like this. It should contain all of the labor resource rates along with their associated column headers that you wish to import.
This includes the Resource Code, Description, and a breakout of all the rates for each of those resources. The first step is to copy the Resource Code and Description of those resources. Select the Resource Code and Description columns, and select Copy. Navigate back to the Estimate Library Resource Rate Register.
On the far right of the page, select Cell Select icon. This is important because it allows Estimate to function similarly to Excel. Select the top most field under Resource Code, right-click and select Paste. The resource codes and associated descriptions are not populated in the register.
At this point, none of the unit costs have been imported. To complete this task, you need to go into a more detailed view; then go to Actions > View > Resource Cost Details. This flattens out all of the information populated for all of the resources. In the scale column filtered down to Scale 1, you are now ready to import the resource details for these resource rates.
It's important to make sure that the ordering of the Resource Rate columns match those columns in Excel. Navigating back to Excel, you can see the ordering of columns is the same in Estimate. Starting with the Labor column, select all of the desired resource rates. Right-click and select Copy.
Navigating back to Estimate, and in the Labor field, right-click and select Paste. You'll see a prompt appear asking If you want to insert the selected values. Select Yes. You have now imported resource rates from your Excel file.
