In InEight Estimate, the library is where you set up and maintain master information that imports into your projects, including resource rates, tags, units of measure, cost item assemblies, and master breakdown structures. The master library also contains the Library Job Properties form, which serves as a template for providing the basic properties of new jobs. To access the library from the Backstage view in InEight Estimate, click on the Library from the side menu. You can also access the library from the main landing page of InEight Estimate by clicking the Library icon.
When the library opens, you'll see several tabs that contain the forms and functions that pertain to the library. Click on the Setup tab and then select Job Properties under the Master Initialization section. There are a few master settings in Job Properties you may want to define at this master level, so they'll show up in the Job Properties of each new job you create. On the Overview tab, you may want to include Notes.
For example, a chief estimator may want to include instructions to his estimators and have them show up on every project, such as a workflow checklist or reminders for bid review. In this case, enter "Always double check rates. On the Cover Sheet tab, you probably won't fill out much information as these fields would be mostly project specific. On the Cost Basis tab, you'll define rules that the project will follow.
There are a couple of things you may want to define at the master level. Shift Arrangements are where you define how many hours your labor will work each day, how many shifts are in a day, and how many days they'll work in a week. Keep in mind, this is where you can define a default shift arrangement that imports into every job. You can change it once you're in the job if necessary, and you can define shifts at the activity level as well.
Enter "10 "for your Work and Pay Hours and "6" for your Days Per Week. You can also put in a default Tax Rate. Perhaps you always work in the same state where the tax rate is 8%, so enter 8% as the default. Another tab you may use is the Fuel Cost tab.
This tab contains different kinds of fuel, the unit of measure for them, and a cost per unit. Entering a default fuel cost here will factor with the utilization of your equipment to be included in your equipment costs on the job. In this case, enter $3 for diesel, $2.50 for gas and gasoline, and $2.75
for off-road diesel. You'll likely change these rates once they're imported into an actual project. Once complete with setting up the Library Job Properties, click OK to close the form and save all changes.
