To create scope items, select the Setup tab and click on Foundation Setup Data. Then select the Quote Groups tags tab. Let's open the Electrical Work quote group and notice that this quote group already contains five scope items and that there's an additional cost associated with doing the surveying and layout work. We'll add an additional scope item for temporary power and lighting and give it an amount of $300.

Then click OK. We're telling the system that we're estimating this scope item and we'll add an additional $300 worth of work. Select the Estimate tab and go to the CBS register. Scroll down to the Electrical Work cost item and assign the electrical work quote group.

Two vendors have just emailed us back two quotes for the electrical work. This is in response to the RFQ we previously submitted. We now need to input these quotes into the Quote Register. From the Quote tab, select the Quote Register, and to create a new quote, right-click on the screen and select New.

Select Create Quote From Quote Group Tag. Then select the electrical work quote group. Click OK. Under the header block for contact, let's select "HD Engineering Group."

For the "unit price", we'll enter $3,500. On the Special Terms & Conditions block, let's assume HD Engineering is excluding certain scope items from this quote. Therefore, we'll uncheck the Included checkbox to exclude the following scope items: surveying and layout, painting, electrical equipment, and temporary power and lighting. Notice how $500 appears for surveying and lighting and $300 for temporary power and lighting.

Since HD Engineering is not going to do this work, we need to take this money into account and possibly find someone else to perform the work. At the least, this amount should be accounted for in our estimate. Click OK. Click New to create a new quote for the other vendor.

For the contact, we'll select "HD International" and enter a "unit cost" of $3,700. Under Special Terms & Conditions we'll uncheck the Included checkbox for surveying and layout. Then click OK. HD International is not committing to one scope item.

On the Quote tab, let's open the Quote Comparison & Award form and select the Cost Items tab. Let's select the box to filter down to just your electrical work. Notice that scope items with "includes" and "excludes" on the quotes are displayed in the Scope Item section and the Total Exclusions are now added to the Special Conditions section for each subcontractor. It's important to notice that this comparison, including scope items, makes it clear, HD Engineering group has provided a higher quote while HD International's quote is lower.

HD Engineering's bid is higher because they chose to exclude more scope work. Since the auto award is already set up to award to the lowest unit prices, HD International will be awarded. Otherwise, we could right- click on the vendor and select Award. We can also select the Reviewed checkbox under Quote Groups indicating we've reviewed the quotes.
