Welcome to InEight Estimate in the Cloud.
In this video we’ll cover how to use the text Input Type field in Cost Item Assemblies which helps to more easily differentiate assemblies from one another in an Estimate.
Any time you have multiple instances of an assembly, you’ll likely find a text description helpful.
Let’s modify one of our existing Cost Item Assemblies to see how to use this new Input Type.
When we open the Standard Retaining Wall Assembly, down in the Inputs section, we see a column called Input Type.
There are three options: a
value, a table or text.
We’ll start by adding in a new input variable.
For the Default Value, we’ll copy and paste the current assembly description.
Then let’s move it to the top of the list of inputs, so providing a description is the first thing the user does when they employ this Cost Item Assembly.
Over in the Calculations tab,
we’ll add a new calculation using the new Cost Item Description input we created as the formula.
… and by right-clicking on the Cost Items Description ‘Standard Retaining Wall Assembly’, we can
link it so the value the user provides for the Cost Item Description will appear here.
To see how
our new variable works, we’ll employ this cost item assembly in the CBS.
We’ll make sure to name this something meaningful, and click OK.
We could even repeat this process and have multiple sections of the Retaining Wall Assembly, each with a unique descriptor.
Note that text-type inputs can be used as
variables for any linkable field, including notes and tag fields.
And that’s how you use the text-type input field in Cost Item Assemblies to easily differentiate assemblies from one another in an estimate.
Thanks for watching!
