The project controls manager reviews man-hour progress, comparing the actual man-hours to man-hours earned. She uses the productivity factor and man-hours gain/loss fields calculated in InEight Control to quickly identify problem areas of the project to bring to the attention of the project manager.
To review earned value metrics based on man-hours, first set up a custom data block. Then you can review related formulas and inputs.
Custom data blocks will vary based on the organization. Following is an example of a data block focused on man-hour progress, but you may choose to make adjustments based on your needs.
Suggested Columns
Actual qty (to date)
CE or CB MHrs earned
Actual MHrs (to date)
CE or CB productivity factor
CE or CB MHrs G/L (to date)

Each column in your data block will display a specific data point (such as actual quantity to date) or a formula. To view the formula for a column, hover your cursor over the column header.
Review the following earned-value formulas related to man-hours:
COLUMN | FORMULA |
CE or CB Mhrs earned | [% complete] x [CE or CB total MHrs] |
CE or CB productivity factor | [CE or CB Mhrs earned] + [Actual MHrs (to date)] |
CE or CB MHrs G/L (to date) | [CE or CB MHrs earned] - [Actual MHrs (to date)] |
Once your custom data blocks are in place and you’ve reviewed the formulas, review inputs and how they drive the calculated values for:
Earned value
Productivity factor
Gain/Loss (G/L)
