In this video, you'll learn how to set up and partially lock budget items. During a job, you can initiate budgets individually for different scopes of work, which provides greater flexibility.

You can lock either your entire budget or on individual items.

Let's start with reviewing locking a cost item.

So here you can see the status.

Since my project is not yet underway, notice that all new items are unlocked.

Notice the CB total cost, CB total hours, and CB total quantity are all zeros because we need to finalize the budget by locking it. I select a couple cost items and go into the actions menu. Here, I can select the lock unlock option and then lock budget from the drop down menu.

This will lock the budget for the item selected. And this will also set the original budget and current budget for the cost items selected.

Note that from the actions menu, you can lock down your entire budget at once. With my cost items locked, I can see the value now reflected in CB total cost, CB total hours, and CB total quantity.

The process will be similar for change orders, defining a new scope of work.

Let's fill out contract adjustment details.

Adjust the CB total cost. This will set the current budget values.
