  • Update scope item quantity slide-out panel – When you update a scope item’s quantity, you now have the option to select Last claim date. You can also now choose to associate the quantity change to an issue in InEight Change. ClosedRead more

    Last claim date

    When you edit a scope item and update the claimed quantities, you can now select the Last claim date option. The Last claim date option lets you easily and accurately attribute the updated claims to the date the last claims were made on each step, reflecting more accurately in your reporting.

    Previously, you could only use the Manual claim date option, which caused all earned value to be attributed to the date of the change.

    Associate to change issue

    The Associate to change issue option provides easy access to the Change issue integration feature.

    When you create a new scope item or edit an existing scope item that does not have claiming, you can select to associate it to an issue in Change.

    The Associate to change issue option is also available when you update the scope item quantity on a scope item, and the scope item has been claimed.

    After you complete the Update scope item qty wizard, the issue is associated to the remaining steps of the scope item.

    Previously, you had to update the scope item quantity and then find the scope item’s steps to associate to a Change issue.

  • Scope item integration with InEight Change – In Engineering, you can now integrate scope item steps to issues in Change. ClosedRead more

    You can associate a scope item’s step or multiple steps to an issue to mitigate risks in deliverables.

    In the scope item > Claiming > Issue column, click the Associate to Change issue icon to open the Associate to Change issue dialog box. In the Associate to Change issue dialog box, you can select issues to assign to the scope item. You can select Assign to this step or Assign to this step and remaining steps.

    You can also view the number of issues associated with the scope item. After you associate issues to a scope item, a number count link shows in the Issue column. Click the number link to view the associated issue or issues. In the dialog box you can remove issues or click Associate to Change issue to return to the Associate to Change issue dialog box.

  • Component link integration with InEight Plan – In the Quantity Forecasting Components section of the quantity item slide-out panel, you can now click the Component ID link to open the component in Plan. ClosedRead more

    You can manage the component in Plan’s Quantity tracking module.

    Previously, to search for a component in Plan, you copied the component ID in Design, and then manually search for the component in Plan.

  • Project value statuses – When the status of a project value is set to Unavailable in InEight Platform, a new yellow caution icon shows alerting you that the Project value is unavailable. The project values are now saved as Unavailable and are no longer deleted. ClosedRead more

    You have the option to change the project value status in Platform. When you have a project value assigned to a scope item or quantity item, and the project value’s status is changed to Unavailable, the project value shows a yellow caution icon. You can select an available project value in the edit scope or quantity item slide-out panel. The project value that was unavailable no longer shows in the list.

  • Claiming is disabled caution icon in the ID column – In Scope Items, the Claiming is disabled yellow caution icon that shows in the Compliance column now also shows in the ID column. The icon makes the scope item compliance issues visible when you do not have the Compliance column added to the view. ClosedRead more

  • New columns in Scope Items – In Engineering, fields in the scope item slide-out panel have been added as columns in the Scope Items page. The columns let you quickly see the data without having to open the slide-out panel to view. ClosedRead more

    The new columns are the following:

    • Assign to

    • CE total MHrs

    • Earned MHrs

    • Forecast remaining MHrs

    • Team

    • WBS Phase Code

    To view the formula for how the aggregated values are calculated for CE total MHrs, Earned MHrs, and Forecast remaining MHrs, you can hover over their headings. For more information, see Scope items.

  • Observations section added to quantity items slide-out panel – In Quantity Forecasting, the new Observations section lets you view observations assigned to a quantity item. ClosedRead more

    In the Observations section, you can navigate to the assigned observation by clicking an observation ID. The observation opens, and you can view or edit it. For more information, see the new Observations section topic.

Observations in Quantity forecasting – You can now capture scope changes and save them as observations on the new Observations page. Observations replace Quantity change notes. ClosedRead more

When changes occur in the design’s scope, you can now use observations to capture the changes and associate them to quantity items or design elements. You can add the following in an observation:

  • Name – Enter a required observation name.

  • Date – Enter a required observation date.

  • Cause code – Select a required cause code from the list.

  • Status – Select an observation status of Active, Removed, or Closed.

  • Severity – Enter a severity from Low, Medium, or High.

  • Assign to – Assign a user to the observation.

  • Associate to - Associate the observation to quantity items or design elements.

    • Quantity items – When you associate to a quantity item, you must first make the association from the quantity items page by selecting one or more quantity items, and then selecting the new Associate observation button.

      In Observations, you can then select from any observation associated to the quantity items.

    • Design elements - When you associate to a design element, you have the option of selecting multiple design elements. Previously, you could associate one design element per note.

  • Change issue – Link the observation to a InEight Change issue.

  • Notes – Add notes that relate to the observation.

  • Tags – Select tags related to the observation.

The existing quantity change notes migrate to observations.

In this release, no features were added but technical improvements were made in the background to enhance your experience in Design.

VIDEO | 24.5 Release Overview

  • Archive flag feature for quantity items – In the project’s Quantity Forecasting module, you can now set quantity items as archived to improve the project load performance of large projects by not loading archived items. ClosedRead more

    Throughout the design phase, quantity items set to Archived do not load nor show in the grid when the Archived toggle is set to On. The toggle is set to On by default.

    You can make the archived items show by setting the Hide Archived toggle to Off. When setting the toggle to Off, the items marked as archived will load and show in the grid.

  • Account code set UoM validation toggle added to project settings in engineering – In the projects Engineering settings, a Validate UoM for claiming toggle has been added to the Account code set tab to provide administrators an option to choose to validate the account code primary UOM from the master library. Contact your InEight representative for information about enabling this feature. ClosedRead more

    When the Validate UoM for claiming toggle is set to On, the UoM in account code, scope item, and WBS must match. By setting the Validate UoM for claiming toggle to Off, only the UoM for the scope item and WBS must match.

  • InEight Platform project value integration in Quantity Forecasting – The project value integration in Engineering is now available in Quantity forecasting as part of the integration with Platform’s project value master data. ClosedRead more

    As an administrator, you can now configure the project values that can be included in quantity items, and whether they are required in a project in Quantity Forecasting.

    When you include project values at the organization level, those values are listed as optional in Quantity Forecasting project settings. You can set the Require toggles to Yes to include the values, which makes them required for the project.

    When you require project values at the organization level, those values are automatically included at the project level and cannot be changed. Included project values at the organization level show at the project level in the project > Quantity Forecasting > Attributes and project values tab.

    The selected project values are shown in the Quantity item grid column options and in the slide-out panel. You can also export and import them in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

  • New Attributes and project values and Component integration tabs – In project > Settings > Quantity Forecasting, the Fields and component integration tab has been renamed to Attributes and project values. In addition, a new tab has been added for Component integration. ClosedRead more

    Attributes and project values

    Project values fields have been updated as part of the InEight Platform project value integration.

    You can enable the following additional options for Attributes and Project values:

    • Include – Lets you select values to make them available in quantity items. When included, the fields are shown in the Quantity forecasting > Quantity Items grid and quantity item slide-out. You can also import the field values.

    • Component – Lets you select fields to configure how component data from InEight Plan is assigned to a quantity item. You must enable component integration with Plan in the Component integration tab to make this column available. For component values to be active they must first be synced in Plan.

    The selected values are shown in the Quantity item grid column options and in the slide-out panel. You can also export and import them in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

    Component integration

    The Plan component integration section is now a new tab in project settings.

    When you enable component integration with Plan, the Component column shows in the Attributes and project values tab, where you can configure the criteria for how Plan components are associated to quantity items. In Quantity forecasting > Quantity Items > Actions > Get Plan Components option is also made available.

    You can sync components by clicking Refresh Components or Delta Refresh Components.

  • Get CE MHrs/Unit manual rate column – In the project Quantity forecasting > Quantity Items > Action > Get CE MHrs/Unit option, you can now override the Current Rate or Pending control rate using a manual rate in the Manual Rate column. ClosedRead more

    The Get FC Remaining MHrs/Unit ability to override rates is now available in the Get CE MHrs/Unit action in Quantity forecasting > Quantity Items > Actions > Get Control unit rates option. When you sync CE MHrs/Unit, a new Manual Rate column shows in the Get Unit Rates dialog box, where you can enter a manual rate to override the current rate or Pending control rate. If a CE manual rate is maintained, the manual rate is used to calculate CE MHrs.

  • InEight Control integration setting enhancement – In project settings Quantity Forecasting > General > Control integration, the Pay item and Assigned vendors attributes are now inherited when Control integration is enabled. You can view, filter, and export pay item and assigned vendor data by adding the Pay item and assigned vendors columns to the grid in Quantity forecasting > Quantity Items grid. ClosedRead more

    Now, in addition to Account code, Cost segment, and UoM attributes, the Pay item, and Assigned vendors are also inherited from Control.

    You can add the Pay item and Assigned vendors columns to the grid and view them in the Edit quantity item slide-out panel.3.

  • Associate documents – In the projects Engineering > Scope items > Actions > Associate documents page, a new Documents tab has been added to view a summary of associated documents to scope items. ClosedRead more

    In the Documents tab, you can easily track associated items, provide real time updates, and export data.

  • Document Types in Project Settings – In project > Settings > Engineering > Documents tab, a new Document Types option has been added to project settings. Now you can select which document types are shown from the Document register when associating documents to scope items in the Associate documents page. ClosedRead more

    • You must add Document Types to sync documents on the project.

    • Only the document types that have been added will be synced.

    • Document types that have an active association to scope items cannot be unlinked.

  • Multiple Associate documents page enhancements – New updates have been made in project > Engineering > Scope items > Actions > Associate documents. ClosedRead more

    • Auto hide mapped scope items to view only the unmapped scope items by enabling the Auto hide mapped toggle.

    • View the associated documents mapped to a scope item when you click the Document count number link and filter to view the associated items in the grid.

    • You can unlink associated documents from scope items.

  • Documents section added to the Scope item slide-out panel – You can now manage document associations in the Scope item slide-out panel new Documents section. ClosedRead more

    Click the Documents section to open.

    Click on a document link to open in Document. You can also unlink documents from scope items. For more information see Edit scope items.

  • InEight Document integration – In Engineering, a new Documents tab has been added to project settings. In the Documents setting tab, set to On the Enable Document Integration toggle to allow integration with Document. ClosedRead more

    When enabled, in Engineering > Scope Items, a new Associate documents action shows in the Actions drop-down menu. Select Associate documents to go to the new Associate documents page to map scope items to documents.

    A Document project must be mapped to the suite project in InEight Platform to enable this setting.

    In the Associate documents page, a scope item panel and a documents panel will show. In the documents panel, select the Sync button to bring in all the documents from the document register in Document. When synced, one scope item can be mapped to multiple documents, or you can use the Map document button to map one document to multiple scope items.

  • InEight Control integration setting – In project > Settings > Quantity Forecasting > General, a new Control Integration toggle has been added to project settings to inherit WBS attributes. When you assign a WBS to a quantity item, and the feature is enabled, the quantity item inherits the WBS Account code, Cost segment, and UoM attributes. ClosedRead more

    The inherited attributes will be disabled in the quantity item.

    To enable Control Integration, the WBS phase code must be selected as Required and Unique in the Quantity Forecasting > Fields and component integration settings tab.

  • Configure work packages page – A new Configure work packages page now opens when configure work packages (Engineering > Scope Items > Actions > Configure work packages). ClosedRead more

    The new Configure work packages page includes the Engineering Work Package and Deliverable Package tabs. Each tab shows a list of work packages that are associated with the project.

    On the Engineering Work Package tab, you can add, edit, and delete engineering work package items. On the Deliverable Package tab, you can add, edit, and delete deliverable package items.

    The work package grid shows the aggregated work package data for all scope items associated to the work packages on the project. When a scope item is added or removed from a package, the work package summary information is updated. When a scope item's hours, dates, or claiming is updated, the summary information is also updated to reflect the changes.

    Data validations are built into a work package’s summary information for percent complete, hours, and dates. When a scope item associated with a package has missing or null values for hours or dates, a warning icon shows next to the values that depend on the missing or null values to calculate.

    For example, if a scope item has the MHrs null due to a missing CE MHRs/qty unit rate, the warning icons show in the % Complete, CE total MHrs and Earned MHrs. You can hover over the warning icon for more information.

  • Work packages dialog box – When you open, add, or edit a work package, a new dialog box window opens in the Overview page. ClosedRead more

    When you add or edit a work package, the work package overview page opens and shows a dialog box section. You can view, update, or enter the new or updated work package information.

    The fields include the following:

    • Type – Permanent pre-filled field based on if it is an Engineering or Deliverable work package.

    • Display Id – Required user defined unique id.

    • Description – Required user defined description.

    • Activity code – Optional user defined activity code.

    • Notes – Optional user notes.

    • Construction need by date – Specify a date the design to be completed by based on the construction priority sequence.

    • Discipline – Associate an engineering discipline to the work package.

    Click the Add icon to add new workpackages. You can also add or edit work packages via import using the work package template. To download the template, select Export > Export work package template. The template is downloaded to your download folder.

    When you are ready to import, click the Import icon, and then follow the import instructions.

  • Assigning work packages to a scope item has been updated - When you assign a work package to a scope item, other work package related scope items are automatically identified, and the the Total Mhrs, Claiming, and Date fields are updated. ClosedRead more

    The fields are updated as follows:

    • Total MHrs - If there are multiple associated scope items, it will provide a sum total.

    • Claiming - If there are multiple associated scope items, it will provide a sum total.

    • Dates - If there are multiple scope items associated with the work package, it will report the earliest start date and the latest finish date.

  • Work package overview page – When you open, add, or edit a work package, a new overview page opens. ClosedRead more

    The overview page provides a visual of various work package related items.

    • Overview of test package – You can view and edit the current work package attributes.

    • % Complete – % complete is based on the scope item hours and earned progress on scope items within the work package.

    • Hours:

      CE – Sum of the scope item man hours for all scope items within a package (Scope Item Qty * CE MHRs/Unit).

      Earned – Sum of the scope item earned hours for all scope items within a package (Earned Qty * CE MHRs/Unit).

      Remaining – Sum of the scope item forecast remaining man hours for all scope items within a package (CE Hours – Earned Hours).

    Overview of scope items:

    • % Complete – % complete is based on the scope item hours and earned progress on scope items within the work package.

    • Hours -

      • CE – Sum of the scope item man hours for all scope items within a package.

        (Scope Item Qty * CE MHRs/Unit)

      • Earned – Sum of the scope item earned hours for all scope items within a package.

        (Earned Qty * CE MHRs/Unit)

      • FC Remaining – Sum of the scope item forecast remaining man hours for all scope items within a package.

        Control Integration on – (CE Hours – Earned Hours)

    • Dates – Start dates show the earliest date, and finish date will show the latest date from the related scope items.

    • Milestones – When the Project Settings – Dates setting is configured with Scope Item/Milestone, the milestones window will show. You can use the Dates Chooser icon to toggle between Planned start/finish, Current start/finish, Actual start/finish, and Completion.

    • Remaining steps – View remaining steps and their % complete for all related scope items to the package. Remaining steps will be shown ascending based on step order.

    • Teams – Shows all teams associated to the work package and the teams’ % complete. The teams’ % complete is based on scope item hours and earned progress the team is assigned to on the scope items within the work package (Earned Hours / Scope Item Hours). An unassigned team will show for scope items that does not have a team assigned.

    • Scope item list – List of scope items with their related work packages. In the Gantt chart, you can view the start and finish dates for the scope items within the work package. You can use the Dates Chooser icon to toggle between Planned start/finish, Current start/finish, and Actual start/finish.

    When you click on a scope item link, the Edit scope item slide-out panel opens. You can view and make changes to scope items. When changes are saved, the overview page is updated to reflect the new changes.

  • Engineering work package (EWP) integration with InEight Plan– You now can configure work packages, aggregate package data, and integrate with Plan. ClosedRead more

    In Plan, you can associate EWPs from Design to Construction work packages (CWP). In the project, select a CWP in Work packaging, and then click Add > Engineering work package - EWP. The Add EWPs from project window opens and shows available EWPs in linked projects. You can click the Add icon to select EWPs.

    The data from Design’s EWP now shows in Plan. The EWP updates when it is updated in Design.

  • Linked engineering work packages – Linked engineering work packages from linked projects now integrate with InEight Plan. ClosedRead more

    When linking multiple engineering projects in Design > Quantity forecasting > Project settings > Linked engineering projects tab, the work packages from the linked projects will now show in Plan. By default, the source project gets mapped to itself and shows its work packages in Plan. Click the Link project button to link additional engineering projects.

  • Account code set - Allow UoM editing – A new toggle has been added to enable UoM editing. ClosedRead more

    Previously, in Quantity Forecasting, when an account code set was used, the primary UoM was inherited and was not editable. You were forced to use the organizational standard that was inherited from the account code.

    Now, a new Allow UoM editing toggle has been added in Design > Quantity forecasting > Project settings > General tab. You now have more flexibility in editing inherited UoMs and their usage.

    When the Allow UoM editing? is enabled, you can edit the inherited UoMs in the column, add or edit slide-out panel, and via import.

    To disable Allow UoM editing?, all Quantity Item UoMs must align to the assigned Account Code’s UoM from the associated Account Code Set.

  • Data export in quantity forecasting – The data export function for exporting quantity items has been updated to support large file exports. ClosedRead more

    When exporting quantity items, the export now processes in the background, and a link to the exported file is provided after the export process is complete.

    To export all quantity items, click the Export quantity items icon, and then select Data export.

    The Audit log > Export History dialog box opens to show you the export history information. The export status shows as In progress. The status changes to Completed when the export is complete.

    In Export History, click the Download export file icon to download the file. The file is downloaded as a Microsoft Excel file to your Downloads folder. Other users with access can download the file in the Export history window.

    The file will be available for 60 days. After 60 days, the Download export file icon is disabled.

  • Undo claim wizard – You now can undo claims for a step or a scope item using the Undo claiming wizard. ClosedRead more

You can now undo claiming at a step-level or to an entire scope item, which reduces the claiming back to 0% complete. This reverses all claims for the specific step or scope item to the day the original claim occurred.

You can undo claim for a step by clicking the Undo claim icon, or undo claiming for a scope item by clicking the Undo claiming button.

You must have Edit claiming permissions.

To undo claiming for a step, click the Undo claim icon. A dialog box shows all claims for the step.

Click Save to undo claiming for the steps shown.

You can undo claiming for all the steps in the scope item using the Undo claiming button.

Click the Undo claiming button at the bottom left, and then a dialog box shows claims for all the steps in the scope item.

Click Save to undo claiming for the all the steps in the scope item.

When a step or scope item has not been claimed and is at 0%, the undo claiming icons do not show.

When InEight Control integration is enabled, the undo claims are sent to the assigned WBS in Control.

All original claims and claim reversal are captured for audit purposes.

  • Forecast (TO) qty and CE MHrs integration with InEight Control – The sum of Forecast (TO) qty and the sum of CE MHrs fields now integrate with Control. ClosedRead more

    The sum of Forecast (TO) qty and the sum of CE MHrs fields now integrate with Control. Keeping the Forecast (TO) qty and CE MHrs in Control can help you verify that the planning, forecasting, procurement, and scheduling can be performed before the design is complete.

    The sum of Forecast (TO) qty and CE MHrs for quantity items associated to a cost item are now sent to Control. Validation is in place to verify UoM alignment between a cost item and a quantity item. Any quantity where the UoM does not align is not sent to Control.

  • Milestone enhancements – A system generated milestone is now assigned and logic was added to the last step of a claiming scheme. ClosedRead more

    Previously when you planned milestone dates, you were not required to configure milestones on all claiming steps for scope items. This resulted in gaps where the scope item was not associated to dates and not available for planning.

    Now, a system-generated milestone of Scope Complete is automatically assigned to a claiming scheme’s last step if the last step is a null value when configured.

    The milestone Scope Complete is auto configured at the root organization and automatically assigned to every project. All claiming scheme steps are now associated with at least one milestone. This ensures that all a scope item’s scope can be planned with dates.

  • Actual start date calculation – The Actual start date is now a calculated field. ClosedRead more

    Now that the gap in milestones is being assigned to every claiming step, you can calculate the actual start date similarly to how you calculate actual finish dates.

    Actual start dates are now an aggregated value based on the claim date that the user specified when beginning claiming.

    The Actual start date is based on the project setting for dates:

    • If the Dates project setting is set to scope item, the system captures the first claim date made on the scope item in the Actual Start Date field.

    • If the Dates project setting is set to scope item/milestone, the system captures the first claim date made on each milestone on a claiming scheme in the Actual Start Date field.

    • If the Dates project setting is set to scope item/schedule group, the system captures the first claim date made on each schedule group on a claiming scheme in the Actual Start Date field.

    To update all existing actual start dates, a script is run upon deployment.

  • Project value integration change - Project value integrations have migrated from InEight Plan to InEight Platform. The configurable functions in Engineering and Quantity forecasting now integrate with Platform to align with other products.

  • Project values functionality has been added - You can now dynamically use project values from Platform. ClosedRead more

    In Engineering, at the organization level, Project values functionality has been added as part of its Platform integration. As an administrator, in Engineering > Project Values, you can configure which project values can be associated to engineering scope items and if they are required in a project.

    • Project values - At the organization level, you can select which project values you want to include in the engineering scope items at the project level.

      When you include project values, those values are available to select from in Settings at the project level. You can select or deselect the values that are not required for the project.

      When you select to require the project values, those values are required at the project level. The toggle for these items are included and are automatically disabled.

      The selected project values are shown in the Scope item grid and slide-out panel. You can also export and import them in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

  • Linked engineering projects – You can link projects to share deliverable and engineering work packages from the Engineering module to the Quantity forecasting module. ClosedRead more

    You can connect deliverable packages and engineering work packages from the Engineering module to a quantity item in the Quantity forecasting module, even if it is in a different project.

    To share deliverable and engineering work packages between different projects, you must link the projects. From one project, go to Settings > Design > Quantity Forecasting > Linked engineering projects, and then click Link project. In the dialog box, select one or more projects, and then click Add.

    By default, each project is already linked to itself, so you can always share deliverable and engineering work packages within the same project.

    In the Quantity forecasting module, there are two new fields available on quantity items:

    • Deliverable package: This field draws on data from Actions > Configure project values in the Engineering module for linked projects.

    • Engineering work package: This field draws on data from Actions > Configure engineering work packages in the Engineering module for linked projects.

    These fields are also available as columns in the quantity items grid.

    After you associate a deliverable or engineering work package with a quantity item, you cannot delete the package or unlink the project.

  • Percent step claim – A Claim qty % column has been added to scope items that automatically calculate the partial quantity you want to claim on a step. ClosedRead more

    In the expanded Claiming view for a scope item, you can enter a value in the new Claim qty % column if partial claiming is enabled. After you enter the percentage value, the Claim qty field is automatically filled with the corresponding quantity value.

    The Claim qty % column has also been added to the Export claiming Microsoft Excel template. You can enter values in the Claim qty % column without having to enter values in the Claim qty column.

    When you import claiming, there are two new options in the Import data from template dialog box.

    If you select Claim by quantity, only values in the Claim qty column are imported. If you select Claim by percentage, only values in the Claim qty % column are imported, and the Claim qty field is calculated automatically.

    The Claim qty % column has also been added to the Audit log and History tab.

  • Configure cause codes – You can now configure the list of cause codes at the organization level. ClosedRead more

    Cause codes are required when a quantity change occurs. The list of available cause codes can now be configured at the organization level in Settings > Design > Engineering > Cause codes. Cause codes configured at the organization level are available to all projects in that organization.

    To add a new cause code, enter an ID and a description, and then click the Add Cause code icon.

    To edit cause codes, click in the fields, and then enter text. To delete a cause code, click the Delete cause code icon to the right. To adjust the position of a cause code in the list, select the cause code, and then click the up or down arrows to the right of the table.

    At the organization level in Settings > Design > Engineering > Resources, click the Add resource icon. There are two new options:

    • Assign resource users by type

    • Assign resource users to team

    In the Assign resource users by type slide-out panel, select a Resource type from the drop-down list. In the Assign resource users to team dialog box, select a Team from the drop-down list.

    To add resource users in both dialog boxes, select them from the drop-down list in the table or search by typing a name. The resource user’s start date is automatically filled in based on their user record. You can change the start date, if necessary.

    You can immediately add more users in the slide-out panel instead of having to exit. When you are finished adding users, click Add. All the selected users are added to the Resources table in bulk.

    The list of available resource users includes only users not already added to an organization as resources.

In this release, no features were added but technical improvements were made in the background to enhance your experience in Design.
